About the Manta Ray
The Manta Ray is a Hot Wheels model which debuted in the collector-aimed (100% Hot Wheels) Rod & Custom 2-Car Sets. It features an opening bubble canopy. It was used twice before being discontinued. The real-life Mantaray is a custom car built by Edward "Dean" Jeffries in 1963. It was built on a 1950's Maserati Formula 1 chassis with a 289 Cobra Small-Block V8 which Jeffries acquired from Carroll Shelby as a gift for his work on the first Shelby Cobra.
