About the '98 Toyota Altezza
The Lexus IS, known in Japan as the Toyota Altezza, is a compact executive car produced by Toyota since 1998. Designed by Tomoyasu Nishi and engineered by Nobuaki Katayama, the IS was designed as a competitor to European luxury sedans and featured an emphasis on sportiness and performance typically not seen on Japanese luxury vehicles.
