About the '84 Porsche 956
The Porsche 956 is a highly successful sports prototype race car manufactured by Porsche for use in endurance racing. Designed by Norbert Singer, the 956 was homologated for Group C category racing in the World Sportscar Championship. Introduced as a replacement for the 936, the 956 was powered by a 2.7L 935/76 turbocharged flat-6 mated to a 5-speed manual; the engine was originally developed for IndyCar.
