About the 1971 De Tomaso Mangusta
The De Tomaso Mangusta is a sports car manufactured by De Tomaso from 1969 to 1971. Styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro of Ghia, the Mangusta acted as the replacement for the Vallelunga; its name is Italian for "mongoose". The car is based on a modified version of the chassis used in the P70 race car and most notably had a rear section which hinged upwards to expose the engine bay; this engine bay would be fitted with a Ford 302 ci (4.9L) HiPo V8 mated to a 5-speed ZF manual.
